Klosters takes its name from the Premonstratensian monastery Klösterli im Walt, which was first mentioned in a document in 1222 and was consecrated to Saint Jacob, a subsidiary of Churwalden. After the monastery was abolished in 1528 and parts of the buildings were destroyed by fire during the Prättigau War in 1621, all that remained was the Romanesque tower of the reformed parish church, which was renovated in 1921 and forms the center of the Klosters Platz district. Very close to the Reformed Church, in a restored farmhouse from the 16th century, is the small Nutli Hüschi local history museum, which conveys local history. The Nutli Hüschi has been owned by the municipality of Klosters since 1954. It was entrusted to the municipality of Klosters as a gift from Georg Schollhorn, son of the founder of the Klosters Local History Museum, Fritz Schöllhorn. The mill in the pipe was also donated to the community of Klosters by Georg Schöllhorn in 1951. Both buildings have been listed since then. The building in which Schröder Schmitte is housed is privately owned. There is a multi-year rental agreement between the owner and the municipality of Klosters. The municipality of Klosters is responsible for the maintenance of all buildings and the financing of the museum operations.
